Childhood Friends: Video Production

Working on this video production with Jason from Wearpro Equipment and Supply, was like walking down memory lane. Jason and Matthew (our Executive Producer and part owner, here at Nordic Media) grew up together in Stoney Plain, just outside of Edmonton, and have been friends since elementary. When the opportunity arose to work together, they hopped on it without hesitation. Their new venture together was to create an engaging marketing video to capture attention and inform customers/viewers. Meetings were fun, and usually included stories about the past and about mutual friends. It’s surreal to think that their paths would cross years later. 

Jason and his team at work wear pro design what’s called a “traction bolt”. It’s an alternative to  ice lugs for heavy machinery. Ice lugs are commonly used in cold climates to prevent track machines from sliding in icy conditions. They are welded to the top edge of a track pad and staggered, where as the traction bolt is designed to save time and money welding ice lugs onto dozers and other heavy machinery. Instead, the traction bolt fits perfectly into existing holes and easy to attach. So just bolt on and go! Its excellent ground penetration is life changing and ideal for Canadian winters. As well, it does not require a welder, saving companies thousands of dollars.

The Video Production

The video was straightforward and a relatively quick to shoot. The video was shot at the beginning of March, when low temperatures and heavy snowfall warnings were constantly in effect. It had snowed maybe 13 cm the night before the  video shoot, so it was fantastic to showcase how sturdy and stable the traction bolt is, and how well it performs in the worst possible conditions. We shot a dozer driving on a very icy and extremely steep hill, and tied in some shots of Wear Pro employees explaining the benefits of the traction bolt and the numerous advantages. Editing the video only took a couple days and was all done in house. We chose the voiceover artist and background music we thought was best fit, to emphasize it’s strength and power. The 30 second commercial was used for social media marketing and for their website. Since launching the video, their sales have tripled.
