Here’s the next installment of my top 31 films since 2000.
#30: A Serbian Film (2010)
I’m sorry but I have to include A Serbian Film even though I’ve only watched it once and not sure if I ever want to watch it again. No other title on this list unsettled me as much as this film about a retired porn actor who, in order to pay off a heavy debt and provide for his family, agrees to make one last film.
I feel very cautious in recommending this film, and I would only do so to the well-seasoned horror film vet, who has been dulled by the formulaic ‘jump-scare’ features that inundate western cinemas, and who is looking for a pulse. This film is brutal, ugly and vile. You will be affected, damaged even, after watching this. That’s why it’s great. How many other forms of art can you say that about these days? You’ve been warned.
I’m not even going to link the trailer due to gnarly content. I’ll have a somewhat nicer movie tomorrow… somewhat. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for #29.
